I would like to sincerely thank all volunteers who joined this year’s Great American Cleanup in Clark County. Despite a rainy spring, 1,603 residents came out — 500 more than last year — and provided more than 3,100 hours of their time to clean up 14 tons of litter,
It is so reassuring to see that so many people are taking pride and responsibility for enhancing their community’s environment.
Everyone from 4H clubs and Scout troops to trail enthusiasts and religious organizations gave their time and energy to remove more than 1,400 bags of trash from our roadsides, waterways, parks, schools and downtown streets from March through May.
I like to think that all of the participating children will learn from their participation, and grow up to be responsible adults who take pride in beautifying their neighborhoods and our public places.
All residents should know that their contributions to fighting litter really can add up to a huge impact.
Whether you gather a group to participate in a roadside cleanup, or simply maintain your own property and cover your trash cans to prevent windswept litter, you are helping to keep Clark County beautiful.
Again, my heartfelt appreciation goes out to all of the concerned citizens who made this year’s Great American Cleanup so great. Your hard work does not go unnoticed.
