Speak Up for Nov. 14 - The Ten Commandment statue should not be replaced.

The Ten Commandment statue should not be replaced. Donate it to a church. Our country is based on separation of church and state for many good reasons. Consider the Taliban in Afghanistan. Just because it has been there since the 1950s doesn’t mean it did not violate our Constitution.

No where in the Constitution does it say anything about separation of church and state. That statement was in a letter written by Thomas Jefferson, which the ACLU has interpreted for the benefit of atheists. Our Ten Commandments should be repaired and placed in its rightful place. It is time we stand up for what is right and just.

What is this country coming to when you can’t replace the Ten Commandments? This country was based on In God We Trust. There should be something we citizens can do.

The county should put the same Ten Commandments back, put some duct tape on it, and it will be symbolic that we have all broken them.

Legal issues over the Ten Commandments? This country is in bad shape.

If the city wants to keep the repaired Ten Commandment monument at its original site, donate the sliver of land where it stands to an individual or non-profit agency (not churches or religious affiliates). Now, no longer public land, end of debate.

When is our president, the military and our media going to admit that the killing of 13 and the wounding of 29 at Fort Hood was an act of terrorism by an Islamic extremist?

Don’t call Maj. Nidal Hasan a victim. He is a terrorist.

Why was the Fort Hood doctor even in a position to be counseling people?

They presented a very moving memorial service for our fallen at Fort Hood.

Let’s show our new Salvation Army captain just how wonderful the people of Springfield can be. Every time you go past a red kettle, give.

Health care decisions must be made by each individual and not dictated by any government. If help is offered, it should come from the state. Odd that we do not hear any legislators speaking about states’ rights.

I am fed up with seniors who think they are the only people deserving a great government-run health plan. Try to go out and buy your own insurance on the open market. I forgot, you’re 74, your health is not that great, and you could not afford to purchase your own. Join the crowd.

It would be nice if those comments stating statistics and facts would cite their sources. I’m guessing there are none, it’s just hearsay. Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see.

The immigrants who made this a great country did two things. First they learned English. Second, they called America home.

My grandchildren and I are looking forward to our family tradition to attend the Holiday in the City.

I will not attend Holiday in the City this year. I only went because of the parade.

Tattoos are a disfigurement of the human body. A woman with tattoos is disgusting.

There are two words that come to my mind when I see a tattoo: prison and sleaze.

I was very sorry to hear about our loss of Dr. Wilhelm Kalweit. He was a good doctor and seemed like a genuinely good person.

I am not a senior but I think we as a country should be doing everything we can to support them.It is a disgrace that our nation disregards our seniors as non important persons after they have worked hard all of their lives and paid into our nations taxes. As far as Tatoos are concerned it's the persons choice I don't care for them but if you do that's not any of my concern, and finally for the 10 commandments go we need to post them everywhere and maybe we can get back to a Nation under God!

If you and your husband pay 100 dollars each a month for your medicare that is a great bargain. Add 150 plus 35 for prescriptions. That is a total of 285 dollars a month per person. That is such a good deal I would not let many know your government healthcare is so cheep. I know many people that would kill to get all that for 285 a month. You might have started working when you were 15 but you paid very little into SS. Nothing by todays standards.

Hmm it is amazing me the comments about tattoos! I s that really all you have to talk about? I have two and plan on more I do not and will not justifiy myself to anyone who thinks they are wrong. It is my choice BUT I in turn would never judge you for the things you like...If you are a God fearing person you are not doing what is said in the Bible....not to judge...so please stop rambling negative remarks about people you do not know.

for the people tired of seniors getting free rides. i dont think so, iv'e worked hard since i was 16 years old and i still pay for insurance. the only people with free rides are the young people with bad backs that have never worked a day in their lives and have medical cards.

Regarding the one that is fed up with seniors getting a free ride. I am a senior. SS takes $100 a month out of our ss checks from each senior to pay for our insurance. My husband and I pay over $300.00 a month for secondary ins. We each pay out $35.00 a month for prescription ins. I am NOT getting a free ride. Add it up. I started working when I was 15 and paid into SS and medicare for all these years. No free ride. We pay and pay.
