Speak Up for March 12 - Comments on Northeastern school expenses and the earthquake in Chile

I still miss Bonnie Snow’s inspirational poems in the newspaper; her last one was Saturday, Oct, 31. I hope she’s doing well and that she knows she’s not been forgotten.

I went to the Northeastern school board office to get a breakdown of district expenses. The printout was so convoluted I was unable to decipher it. That cute little ploy convinced me to vote against that and subsequent levies.

If you want to know what teachers, secretaries, cooks, library aids or anybody else makes as a salary for the NE school district. Go to the board office and pay $2 for the cost of the copies. You are given a detailed summary of everyone’s wages. I am sure all districts are the same.

Northeastern teacher salaries: Why do people resent the salary a teacher gets, it is not much. How would you like to have a class of 30 and control them and send them home to parents who don’t teach them. Let’s publish your salary.

Chile’s earthquake was bigger than Haiti’s. Why isn’t everyone running to their aid? (Editor’s note: About 230,000 people were killed by the earthquake in Haiti. The confirmed death toll in Chile reached 497 on Monday, March 8.)

Where are all the stars donating time and money for Chile like they did for Haiti? Where are all the advertisements to give donations to Chile like there was for Haiti?

A sign on the front lawn of a church read “Pray for Haiti.” Next week it will say “Pray for Chile.” Who will pray for us?

When are the Springfield Police going to do something about the underground male prostitution in this city?

I agree with Aaron Reep. Ohio does need to do something to stop sex trade and protect young people. I was disappointed Michelle Obama chose childhood obesity when stuff like this is going on.

People only take a train if they absolutely have to and that’s only until they’re able to save enough money to buy a car.
