Tecumseh Local Schools are at a high point with an “excellent” rating from the state.
But, like nearly all Ohio school districts, storm clouds are forming over the district’s financial outlook.
With that as the background, five people are running for three seats on the school board. They are:
• Beverly Quinn, an incumbent board member, is a retired teacher.
• Dan Studebaker, an incumbent, operates Studebaker Wholesale Nurseries.
• Mert Christmann is membership director at the Tecumseh YMCA.
• Marc Vlasic is an electrical engineer at Wright-Patterson AFB and a former member of the school board.
• Jim Snyder is executive director of DayView Retirement Village and a former member of the board.
The News-Sun interviewed the first four in person and Snyder in a phone call.
All five of the candidates are intelligent and committed to the district. They would all serve the district competently.
The two incumbents, Quinn and Studebaker, are both engaged and knowledgeable about the district. Experience with current issues is a plus and the News-Sun endorses them for re-election.
None of the other three candidates can be easily eliminated from consideration and the News-Sun finds each of them acceptable.
All took pride in the state grade card ranking and the quality of education, and four would place a ballot issue before voters to avoid deep cuts.
Vlasic would not, arguing that the state has sidestepped its responsiblity and needs to solve school funding problems.

The only one worthy of my vote is Mert Christman.
