Bumgardner, Stickney have most experience

Pleasant Twp. faces the same problems other townships in Clark County face, a lot of basic needs and not much money to work with.

Roads are the biggest issue facing trustees, the cost of fixing them has gone up dramatically over the past several years.

Other township responsibilities include taking care of cemeteries, maintaining the fire department and keeping an eye on development.

Given the practical nature of the job, experience and common sense are the main qualifications.

Pleasant Twp. is fortunate to have six qualified candidates seeking two seats. They are:

• Dana Bumgardner, an incumbent with 20 years experience.

• David Dickinson, a truck driver with Super Value in Xenia.

• Steven Fry, owner of Nu-Lawn and a farmer.

• Brad Hambrick, a carpenter for Wittenberg University.

• Kyle Smith, a farmer and co-owner of KC Fencing Unlimited.

• David Stickney, a farmer and former trustee.

The News-Sun interviewed all the candidates in person except Stickney who was interviewed in a phone call.

While all the candidates would serve the township well, the News-Sun believes the township trustee experience of Bumgarder and Stickney make them stand out.

Both men know the details of making a township work on a limited budget. Both are farmers and understand the value of maintaining farmland but are open to development if local residents want it.

I am writing because of your bias and misinformation regarding the township trustees you have endorsed, who have all been incumbents. You have no history on any of them. Many of these should not be reelected for a variety of reasons that I don’t have space here to give you. It’s not a newspaper’s job to endorse anybody. The newspaper’s job is to state facts. It’s unfair and unprofessional. You may have helped people get elected who don’t deserve it. What a disservice to those who do.

I find it odd that a township clamoring for new leadership has the incumbent and a former trustee endorsed by the newspaper. In fact the incumbent was endorsed in EVERY SINGLE race! That didn't take a lot of thought, once again I am unimpressed with the efforts of COX Publishing.
