A citizen’s duty: Go to the polls today and vote

Today, Nov. 3 is the day to make your voice heard. The polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.

The News-Sun has made endorsements for many, but not all, of the issues and races on today’s ballot. Here is a recap of our recommendations:

State issues

Issue 1: Compensation to veterans, Yes.

Issue 2: Establishing a State Livestock Care Standards Board, No.

Issue 3: Allowing casinos in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo, No.

Races

(Incumbents are identified by asterisks.)

Springfield City Commission, three seats: Rob Baker, Karen Duncan* and Dan Martin*.

Enon Council, four seats: Diana Ballard, Elmer Beard, Steve Bowers* and Rick Hanna.

Bethel Twp. trustees, two seats: Nancy Brown* and David Finfrock*.

German Twp. trustees, two seats: Joe Clark* and Charles Metzger*.

Harmony Twp. trustees, two seats: Rick Delaney*. The News-Sun found the two other candidates, Ty Callicoat and Tom Troxell, equally qualified.

Mad River Twp. trustees, two seats: Robert McClure and Richard Schumann*.

Madison Twp. trustees, two seats: James Davidson*. The News-Sun found three other candidates — Greg Kaffenbarger, Eric Kesler and Jeff Mumma — equally qualified.

Pleasant Twp. trustee, two seats: Dana Bumgardner* and David Stickney.

Springfield Twp. trustee, two seats: Jim Scoby* and Paul Smith.

Clark-Shawnee school board, three seats: David Dehart*, Judith Pierce and Dave Speas.

Greenon school board, three seats: Anna Bucy* and Nelson Henning*. The News-Sun found five other candidates equally qualified: David Ball, Keith Culp, Alan Donaldson, Becky Hale and Heidi Steinbrink. The News-Sun tried, but was not able to contact Cynthia Boone*.

Northwestern school board, three seats: Keith Baldwin*, Bruce Lemley* and Donna Myers*.

Southeastern school board, three seats: Frances Edwards*. The News-Sun found the other two candidates — Tony Entler and Darron Routzahn — equally qualified.

Tecumseh school board, three seats: Beverly Quinn* and Dan Studebaker*. The News-Sun found the other three candidates — Mert Christmann, Marc Vlasic and Jim Snyder — equally qualified.

Levies

Clark County Mental Health & Recovery: 1-mill renewal operating levy, Yes.

Cedar Cliff Local School District: .25 percent income tax for renovation and permanent improvements, yes. Issue bonds for local share to participate in the Ohio classroom assistance program, Yes.

Northeastern Local School District: .25 percent income tax for permanent improvemnts, Yes. Issue bonds to participate in the Ohio classroom assistance program, Yes.

Northwestern Local School District: 1 percent income tax for current expenses, Yes. Issue bonds to participate in the Ohio classroom assistance program, Yes.

Southeastern Local School District: 3-mill renewal levy for facility improvement and equipment, Yes.

Springfield City Schools: 7-mill renewal levy for current expenses, Yes.

Tecumseh Local School District: A 2.656 mill renewal levy for emergency funding, Yes; a 4.417 mill renewal levy for emergency funding, Yes, and a 4-mill renewal levy for improvements to facilities and equipment, Yes.
