Dear community members: Plant pride in your backyard, and watch our community grow. That was the theme for “Springfield in Full Bloom,” and that is exactly what the “America in Bloom” judges saw last week during their visit — lots of pride being planted in backyards, by residents and businesses, and through collaborative efforts.

While we will not know the outcome of the judging until October, the initial feedback we received from the judges was very positive. They both shared that they would like to return to Springfield for a visit “at a much slower pace.”

Another aspect of the tour that received accolades was that the tour included all parts of our city — not only the beautiful parts, but the parts in which you channel your passion toward revitalizing.

Thank you to the volunteers, tour stop hosts and steering committee members for your hard work in showcasing Springfield. And thank you to those who put in some extra hours on your yards. Every little bit helped!

— MELANIE WILT, VOLUNTEER CHAIR OF AMERICA IN BLOOM, SPRINGFIELD
