In this time of economic crisis, I still get in line behind men and women spending $20 to $50 a week on lottery tickets. If this same money were given to churches with food pantries and clothes closets for the poor and needy, a lot more good could be accomplished.
Catholic Relief Services could help single-parent homes with rent and utility assistance. The Salvation Army could build facilities to house the homeless and help them get back on their feet. The best part of this? Helping the poor would be done out of love and not a duty because of a government agency. ...
Generosity is a lost blessing in this country (and is) not practiced much anymore. God is watching and waiting to see if we have faith enough to trust Him and his church so He can set aright our economic and social ills.
