Haywood brings us a losing ND tradition and has absolutely no Miami heritage. But, true to Miami form, we can “feel good about ourselves” because Haywood’s PC. Great! …Brad Bates is the problem.

It makes no difference who they choose, they are in the MAC!! They can’t get the quality players, every once in awhile they get a couple. But the big conference schools will always be on top.

I am very pleased with this selection. Miami has had some dud hirings, like Tim Rose and Shane, but usually chooses someone capable of building on the Cradle philosophy of intelligence and finding athletes who can fit in at a school with rigid academics like Miami. I am sure there are those who derided Hoeppner when he got his shot because he had been assistant for a long time. Had there been an internet Dick Crum wouldn’t have passed muster because he was an academic, and not a former jock. I want someone who can lead, coach and have a vision. The fact that he is black is also a positive because Miami should always be a leader in the world of college football. Gillman was one of the few Jewish head coaches back in his day and he turned out pretty well. I welcome the new coach and those of us who care about Miami football should ALL do the same. Love and honor and all that. I think Bates did a great job. I would have been happy with Mallory or others with Miami connections, but this is a bold pick and I expect it’s the right one. I, for one, am stoked.

I think it’s great that Miami picked Haywood. His past experiences at a wide variety of colleges, including MAC schools, shows that he has a lot of potential and a lot to bring to Miami. Hopefully he can prove it by bringing us a winning season, or at least something better than the last few years!

This guy has zero credentials to be a head coach at Miami. PC strikes again.

I can clearly see how the coordinator in charge of an offense as effective as Notre Dame should get a shot at being a head coach.

I don’t know much about Haywood, but it can’t be any worse than the past three years under Montgomery. Give Haywood a shot. He does know the conference. Hopefully he can recruit.

There is very little Miami tradition remaining—no Miami connection in coaching selections—no Sat. aft games—no block M —no students at the game and very few victories.

I’m not sold on Coach Monty.

“The fact that he is black is also a positive because Miami should always be a leader in the world of college football.”…Peter. Can anybody identify anything logical in his comment?? Better yet: our country is barbaric because we have failed (“and failed miserably”) to elect President a 3 eyed aborigine woman with Tourret’s. (See? Responding to the REAL world isn’t so bad after all.)

Can’t say much because I don’t know him, but I am a great fan of Brad Bates and trust his selection. Let’s get behind Mr. Haywood and build a great new tradition of winning football and take on the big boys.

I do not think this is the next memeber of the craddle, but I hope I’m wrong. And I’m an Irish fan for pete’s sake!( frankly I haven’t been real impressed with ND for a few years)

As a current redhawk player i think that the problem was much deeper then then the head coach. yes, he should of got rid of the problem but u can not blame turn overs on him. I pray that this hire turns us in the right direction…

Miami made an excellent choice for their football and academic tradition. I have followed Coach Haywood’s career for years and he is a star on the rise. He has coached at Notre Dame, Texas and LSU, he understands big time college football and how to recruit on that level. Best of Luck to coach Haywood!!

Miami always had a successful tradition because of the Miami lineage. But, to be “progressive” and worldy, we import these guys from Washington State (Hodge) and Vanderbilt (Bates) who take Miami ever further into the void of PC where white boys (behind the scene) never survive being called a racist. We need to fight the character fight, restore honesty and integrity, and learn just what are “the right reasons” Bring it on.

Thought color, religion, gender, blah, blah, blah, wasn’t to be considered in hirings. Yet, this should please the morons @ ESPN as they’ve taken the lead in beating the “not enough black head coaches” drum. & knowing the way MU tries to cram liberalism down everyone’s throats, I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed the mascot from Redhawks to Blackhawks. Think that would really hype the Redskin alumni?

Muklehede-Blackhawks doesn’t sound so bad after all. Black is not a bad thing. Just give him a chance to show you what he can do. My son attended ND football camp for the last 2 years and Coach Haywood has made a diference in my son life and his game of football. Most of you have never played football let alone coached but you have all the answers. Someone in your life gave you a chance so why not let him have one without all the bad lip. Why must he prove so much to you when the other coach did not have to prove anything. Time for a change nothing else was working so why not go in a different direction. Go Redhawks!!
