11-year-old bicyclist killed by late-night car strike on state route

An 11-year-old Tecumseh Middle School student was killed late Friday night after being hit by a car while riding a bicycle on Ohio 235.

Kaden Webb of New Carlisle died after being hit by a vehicle while riding north on the state route near Stafford Road in Pike Twp., authorities said.

The youngster who was set to start seventh grade in the fall was “so smart and sweet and kind,” according to the gofundme page that the family has set up to help defray funeral costs.

The accident occurred about 9:45 p.m. Friday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Webb was ejected from his bicycle after a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Andrew Blake, 19, of Springfield, struck it, according to the highway patrol.

The juvenile was not wearing a helmet or reflective clothing at the time of the crash, authorities said. He was taken by CareFlight to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where he later died, according to the highway patrol.

The highway patrol investigation is continuing, but the agency had no further information to release Saturday afternoon on the accident.

The wreck happened minutes before emergency crews responded Friday night to Enon Beach, where the 2-year-old fell in a fire pit, authorities said.

Crews responded just after 9:30 and CareFlight transported the young victim. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case and no more information was available late Saturday afternoon.
