A Washington man who had an active felony warrant for his arrest was captured after attempting to hide behind a massive toy bear.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department said the incident happened March 9 in Tacoma. While conducting a compliance check at a residence, authorities received a tip about a man with a warrant who was also living at the residence. An initial sweep did not turn up the wanted man, but officers then spotted the suspect hiding behind a 6-foot-tall stuffed teddy bear.

"The suspect was ordered to show his hands and come out from behind the teddy bear," police said in their report. The suspect was taken to the ground and handcuffed after refusing to obey repeated commands, according to police.

"Numerous used syringes, a bag of miscellaneous prescription pills, and a small baggy containing heroin" were found during a search of the bedroom, according to the police report. A loaded revolver, containing hollow point style ammunition, was found in a jacket believed to belong to the suspect, police said. Police determined the gun was stolen from an auto repair shop in December.

The 32-year-old suspect was booked in to the Pierce County Jail on firearm and drug charges, along with the outstanding felony warrant charges.
