SPRINGFIELD — A 25-year-old Springfield woman died after a an alcohol-related crash at 3:11 a.m. today, Oct. 18, on Columbus Road in Springfield, according to authorities.
Rachel Fairchild, 25, 311 Hickory Dr., Springfield, was a passenger in an eastbound 1994 Ford Taurus station wagon driven by Timothy Adams, 23, of 311 Hickory Dr., Springfield. Adams had been drinking, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The car went off the left side of Columbus, west of Croft Road, striking two mailboxes and a utility pole before landing near some trees.
Fairchild was flown by helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital, where she died after 6 a.m. this morning, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
According to the patrol, Fairchild wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Another passenger not wearing a seatbelt, Douglas Fairchild, 28, of 954 Park Ave., Springfield, was ejected from the vehicle and taken to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He was listed in a serious condition Sunday morning.
Adams, who was wearing a seatbelt, was uninjured. He remained free, pending review of the case by prosecutors, according to the patrol.
