SPRINGFIELD — The two finalists in Wittenberg University’s search for its next president will visit the campus in the coming weeks.
The search committee has narrowed the field of candidates down to two women, said Mark Sullivan, chief marketing and communications officer.
Sullivan declined to name the candidates.
“We’re trying to respect their privacy as much as possible,” he said.
If one of the two candidates is selected and she accepts, the 1,900-student liberal arts school would have its first female president since it was founded in 1845.
Wittenberg officials started a search for new leadership after current President Mark Erickson announced last May that he would resign at the end of this school year.
Erickson has since accepted a position as the president of Northampton Community College in Bethleham, Pa. He will begin there July 1.
Erickson was the 13th president of Wittenberg University. He came to the school in 2005 from Bethleham’s Lehigh University, where he was the vice president for administrative and government affairs and a top adviser to the college’s president, according to his biography.
