Two community dances to be held on Saturday

It is time to get out those dancing shoes, folks. No way to avoid it. As Gene Kelly sang in “Singing in the Rain,” “Gotta Dance!”

On Saturday night, Feb. 13, community dances are planned in both Enon and New Carlisle. That’s right, two dances on the same night! Western Clark County residents will have no excuse to stay home and watch TV.

For seven years, the Enon Community Historical Society has been hosting a “Back to the 50s” Valentines Day Dinner and Dance at the Enon VFW. The All You Can Eat 50s Buffet will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. followed by dancing to live music by Corky’s Old-time Rock and Roll Revival until midnight.

According to Robin Barry, reservations are not required and tickets can be bought at the door for $19.50 each. Call (937) 864-2673 to buy tickets in advance or to find out about discounts for groups of four or more.

There will be door prizes, a cash bar, a costume contest and a silent auction. Emcee will be Darryl Bauer, WHIO-AM radio news anchor.

“I’m just driven to raise more money for the building fund,” said Barry, who explained that the proceeds would help complete the group’s move into a new building.

Only a few miles away, the New Carlisle Bicentennial Ball will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, with a Grand March to music by The Impossibles.

“We are encouraging people to wear costumes but it is not required,” said Bill Berry who expects to see a mix of historical costumes from frontier times to the present. Dancing is not required, but having fun is.

“The Impossibles are known for their wide variety of music,” said Berry.

The community room at Lake Avenue Christian Church, 1101 W.Lake Ave., will be filled with activities. Cakewalks, professional photographs and refreshments are planned in addition to raffles throughout the evening.

“We’ve got some great prizes,” said Berry. Festivities end at 11 p.m.

The youth group of the church will provide childcare for 2- to 10-year olds for $2 an hour.

Admission to the Bicentennial Ball is a cash or food donation to Bethel Churches United Food Pantry. Call Berry at (937) 845-8774 for more information.
