MASON – Starting next year, Kings Island’s children area will feature some of the most well-known faces to grace the funnies.

“Planet Snoopy” will feature a wide variety of Peanuts-themed attractions and rides for children of all ages looking to enjoy Kings Island’s children section, which occupies nearly 15 acres of the 364 acre park, according to spokesman Don Helbig.

“It’s pretty expansive,” Helbig said. “It’s got 18 rides and attractions, with four roller coasters for kids, more than anywhere else in the world.

“The rides will be re-themed to Peanuts, but the thrills, the fun, that all remains the same.”

The kids’ section, which was named “Best Kids’ Area in the World” in Amusement Today Golden Ticket awards from 2001 through 2008, also will feature a live stage show and daily meet-and-greet opportunities with Peanuts characters such as Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy and Snoopy.

“Planet Snoopy” will replace the themes of Scooby-Doo, which has been at the park since it opened in 1972, and Nickelodeon Universe, which debuted in 2001.

“We’ve gone through transitions before, going from Hanna-Barbera Land to Nickelodeon Universe and now going into Planet Snoopy,” Helbig said. “(Peanuts) is a timeless classic that’s synonymous with good, wholesome family fun. They appeal to both young and old alike.”

The rebranding coincides with the 60th anniversary of Peanuts, Charles Schulz’s massively popular comic strip, which is featured in more than 2,000 newspapers, plus countless television specials, DVDs, stage productions, books and Internet sites.
