SPRINGFIELD — A local business was taped off briefly today, Jan. 30 after juveniles dropped off a pair of water bottle bombs outside the store.

Authorities responded to Family Dollar, 1857 S. Limestone, shortly after 1 p.m. after a customer reported seeing the juveniles drop off two of the small bombs at the front and rear of the business. The device at the back of the store went off, but the one at the front of the business did not, according to information from the Springfield Police Division. No one was injured.

The Springfield Fire Division also assisted at the scene.

Police said the juveniles bought the materials to make the bombs inside the business shortly before dropping them off.

The bombs are made with household cleaners that react with foil. The pressure builds up inside, causing an explosion.

The scene was cleared a short time later.
