SPRINGFIELD — Rankings of 2009’s top 10 local traffic urban and rural “hot spots” were recently released by the Clark County-Springfield Transportation Coordinating Committee.

Belmont Road at Lagonda Avenue-Mitchell Boulevard and Ohio 235 at U.S. Route 40 in the county are the most dangerous intersections for Springfield and the county, respectively.

The rankings take into frequency, type and severity of crashes at each location.

According to the TCC, the locations were examined using 2006-2008 data from the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

Sheriff Gene Kelly said many of the most dangerous locations in the county are already being addressed.

“We’ve gone after additional dollars through the Ohio Department of Transportation for traffic enforcement for additional deputies to put on the street,” Kelly said.

He explained that deputies watch out for impaired drivers, aggressive drivers, speeders or “any other factors that can contribute to a crash,” he said.
