SPRINGFIELD — Navistar International Corp. has launched a website to help interested parties keep track of upcoming contract negotiations between the company and the United Auto Workers union.

On Monday, August 16, the company unveiled the website — available at navistar.com/negotiations — which will offer “big picture” information and regional information as appropriate, said Navistar Spokesperson Roy Wiley.

The site will be updated as information is available.

“There are so many stakeholders — employees, customers, vendors — who will want to follow the process. This is an innovation for us,” Wiley said.

Negotiations between Navistar and the UAW to establish a master agreement and local contracts that will govern work at the Springfield truck production facility on Urbana Road will begin Monday, August 23.

The traditional negotiations kick-off, being held in Chicago, takes place today, August 17.

Subsequent national bargaining will take place in Louisville; local negotiations will be held in Springfield.

UAW Local 402 President Jason Barlow will be negotiating local issues, including work rules, as other union representatives head to the national negotiations to work on wider issues, including wages and health care.

Each UAW-represented Navistar facility will create its own local contract and send representatives to the national meetings.

The existing contract expires Oct. 1.

For the company, the upcoming negotiations will focus on two key matters.

“We want to work with the UAW representatives and employees to establish competitive improvements and decisions to advance Navistar’s bright future. We also want a wage and benefits package that allows our employees and retirees to maintain a good and secure quality of life,” Wiley said.
