SPRINGFIELD — Negotiators for Moyno Inc. and its workers will return to the bargaining table after employees soundly rejected a contract proposal from the company Sunday.

Wayne Reynolds, a representative for the United Auto Workers International, said of 117 employees who voted on a contract proposal from the company, 112 opposed the contract while only five approved it. After the vote, Reynolds said the company agreed to go back to the negotiating table.

Of the 240 company employees, 128 are represented by the UAW. In addition, about 150 retirees are represented by the UAW Local 902.

Officials from Moyno, 1895 W. Jefferson St., and its parent company, Robbins and Myers, could not be reached for comment Sunday. The company produces cavity pumps and parts for the oil, gas, food and beverage industries, among others.

Reynolds said the proposal from the company would have eliminated a pension plan and a cost-of-living allowance for employees, and led to substantial wage decreases for the majority of its work force. New workers also would have been hired in at a lower rate, Reynolds said.

Reynolds said the company is a good place to work, but said the contract was not acceptable to employees.

Dave Morrow, a bargaining chairman for the UAW Local 902, said the company has been profitable, and employees should be fairly compensated for their work.

“We just want to share their growth,” Morrow said.

After the meeting, Morrow said employees were happy to hear the company agreed to continue negotiations.

“We stand unified,” Morrow said.
