MECHANICSBURG — This village’s annual Tour of Homes will take place Saturday, Dec. 12.
The event, from 4 to 8 p.m., will allow residents to tour five homes in the village that have been specially decorated for the holidays. Last year, the event drew about 700 visitors, said Lu Blaine, who helped organize the tour with her daughter Sue.
The tour is free, but donations will be accepted, she said. Proceeds from the event will help cover the costs for some area eighth graders to attend a class trip to Washington D.C.
Blaine said the organizers has used the money it received from donations and provided it to a different charity each year. In the past, it has been used to provide additional funding for the PAWS animal shelter, purchase toys for needy children and assist the local volunteer fire department.
While it has drawn large crowds in recent years, Blaine said she isn’t sure what to expect this year. She said there are some concerns the economy might keep some visitors away this year. However, she said she is still hoping for big crowds this year.
Houses include the Blanton home at 36 N. Main St., Hopkins Bed and Breakfast at 844 Ohio 29, the Smith home at 4669 Allison Road, the Trainer home at 4684 Allison Road and the Blaine home at 28 N. Main St.
