DAYTON — A Florida man accused of killing two people in a violent car crash was indicted Tuesday on four felony counts and a misdemeanor.

A Montgomery County grand jury indicted Robert Finkley on:

• Two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, while operating a vehicle while under the influence. — Two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, while driving recklessly

• One count of operating a vehicle while under the influence, which is the sole misdemeanor in the indictment.

Finkley, 29, of Gainesville, remains in the Montgomery County Jail. He is accused of killing Christina Jackson, 20, and Corey Cooper, 18, on Nov. 19.

Jackson had been driving a 1996 Dodge Neon, and was making a legal right-hand turn from Wilmington Avenue to Wayne Avenue when Finkley’s car plowed into the driver’s side of the Neon. The force of the collision sent the Neon into a retaining wall in front of One Wilmington Place.

According to witnesses, Finkley was driving his rental car on Wayne at high speeds before striking Jackson’s stopped vehicle. Police believe Finkley, who is suspected of drinking before the crash, was traveling at more than 70 mph, police said.

Finkley was in town working as a consultant for Premier Health Partners.

Jackson, a Carroll High School graduate, was giving her friend, Cooper, a senior at Carroll, a ride home. She was stopped at the light and making a call to tell her brother, who made it through the light in front of her, that she would be home in a minute.

“Unfortunately, this case illustrates the tragic consequences of getting behind the wheel and driving drunk,” said Montgomery County Prosecutor Mathias H. Heck, Jr. “Sadly, two young people lost their lives because of this defendant’s lack of responsibility and judgment.”
