SPRINGFIELD — A 31-year-old Springfield man is in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital after he was intentionally run over by another man driving a Jeep Cherokee, police alleged.

The injured man was attempting to buy the Jeep from the suspect about 11:55 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, on West High Street near South Bell Avenue when the two men argued, according to the Springfield Police Division.

The suspect ran off and another unknown man drove the Jeep and picked the suspect up.

The suspect circled the block in the Jeep while yelling, then turned northbound onto South Bell Avenue and drove at the victim, striking him intentionally, police said, and driving over him without stopping.

The suspect fled through an alley off South Bell Avenue, police said, where investigators later found a license plate and a shopping cart that appeared to have been struck by the Jeep.

The victim was first transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center, Fountain Boulevard campus, then to Miami Valley in Dayton by CareFlight.

The police report lists a possible suspect in the incident, but it doesn’t indicate if any charges have been filed.
