URBANA — Sparks from a cutting machine is blamed for a fire at International Fiber, late Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Urbana Fire Department officials were called to the business at 1228 Muzzy Road, shortly after 10 p.m. on the report of an explosion and flames.

While there was no explosion, Urbana fire prevention officer, Capt. Dave Torsell, said ignited powder in a hopper did blow off a door. No one was injured. About two hoppers of product were lost.

A sprinkler system helped keep the fire from getting out of control, he said.

He had no estimate of damage. He said the company expects to resume operations once cleanup was complete.
