Navistar receives $66M in orders

Navistar’s parent corporation has received $66 million in delivery orders from the U.S. Army, the Warrenville, Ill.-based company announced, Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The 492 vehicles for TACOM Life Cycle Management Command are for support security and rebuilding efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. They will be produced at the company’s Oklahoma, Texas and Mississippi facilities, company spokeswoman Elissa Koc said.

The units are additional orders placed under four existing contracts.

Square dancing, ice cream social

The Concord Cloverleaf Squares are offering an introduction to Modern Square Dancing at an ice cream social at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at 1150 Scioto St. in Urbana.

Free lessons will also be offered every Thursday at 7 p.m. after Sept. 9.

South Vienna wins award

The Tuttle Road Walmart has selected South Vienna Elementary School as its 2009-10 School of the Year. Store representatives presented 10 staff members with $100 gift certificates Tuesday, Sept. 7, in recognition.

Ridgewood School gets grant

Ridgewood School is one of 240 Ohio schools selected to receive a Capitol Square Foundation Transportation Grant, funded by Honda of America and Walmart.

The grant will fund transportation for a field trip to Columbus’ Ohio Statehouse Museum Education Center, where students will tour the museum, have a picnic on the Statehouse lawn and meet with Ohio legislators.

Teacher receives Governor’s Award

Gail Daniels, a science teacher at Ridgewood School, has been named a recipient of the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Youth Science Opportunities by the Ohio Academy of Science.

Daniels is the only recipient in Clark County for the 2009-10 award, according to the school.

To qualify, schools must have a local science fair, send at least one student to the academy’s district science day and offer students the chance to participate in a science activity outside of the classroom.

Beta Beta Master meeting today

Ohio Beta Beta Master will meet at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 8, at Carriage Inn, Enon. Hostess is Barbara Picklesimer.
