SPRINGFIELD — The Warder Literacy Center Second Annual Cookie Walk and Open House should appeal to anyone with a sweet tooth and a love for reading.
The event will be held during Holiday in the City this weekend, 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at the center, 137 E. High Street.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the center, which had faced a $52,000 deficit earlier this year. As of September, the center was operating in the black and planning ahead for next year’s budget.
Last year’s Cookie Walk was “very well-received,” said Bobbie Sin, student services coordinator. “We sold out of cookies.”
Participants will be able to enjoy hot chocolate or coffee, Christmas carols and activities for the kids. Cookies are available by the dozen and fudge or candy by the pound.
The event is for multiple purposes, Sin said.
“We want to show off the beautiful building, which is 121 years old this year,” she explained. “Secondly, we want to build an awareness of what we do here.”
