SPRINGFIELD — Local law enforcement organizations are gearing up for what could be a busy holiday weekend and officials are stepping up patrols to target impaired drivers and speed violations.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office will focus their efforts on state Route 235 in Bethel Twp., said Sheriff Gene Kelly.

“(Route 235) has led in serious crashes and fatalities in recent years,” he said.

The Springfield Police Division will also have extra patrols throughout the city until Sunday, July 5, according to a news release.

Kelly said his office will have a speed radar on state Route 41 leading toward the Clark County Fairgrounds.

Additional deputies will be assigned to the Clarence J. Brown Reservoir, said Kelly.

“Hopefully it’s going to be a great weekend,” he said.

The Ohio Highway Patrol isn’t planning any sobriety checkpoints this weekend, according to officials.

The overtime for the additional patrols is funded by a grant through the Governor’s Highway Safety Office.
