SPRINGFIELD — People of different faiths will come together for a special service to promote and spread peace throughout Clark County during the holiday season.
St. Mark’s United Methodist Church is putting on the Interfaith Thanksgiving Worship service, bringing together people of the Judaism, Islam and Christianity faith traditions to learn about peacemaking. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 N. Limestone St.
This service marks the sixth annual for the Interfaith group, with one each year being held at a different place of worship in the Springfield community.
According to the Rev. David Yingling of St. Mark’s, the purpose of the service is to welcome all people of faith to gather in Springfield and celebrate their oneness while thanking God for the many blessings in life.
“My hope is that the faithful people of Springfield will gather as one joyous body in celebrating the God of all people,” said Yingling.
The service will offer ribbon weaving, shared peace quotes, stories of peace, prayers for peace, congregational singing and fellowship. An offering will also be taken during the service and given to the Springfield Peace Center.
“I also hope that people of faith (Christianity, Judaism, Islam) will work together for a peaceful Springfield,” said Yingling.
