Doug Hoffman was selected Tuesday to take a spot on Urbana’s city council, after receiving the exact number of votes needed to earn the job.
He will replace Bill Bean, who left the city council when he was elected mayor.
After an executive session, Hoffman earned four votes from council members, while two other candidates each received one vote. There were a total of six candidates who applied for the position.
Bean’s seat is set to expire in 2013.
Marty Hess, council president, said Hoffman had to earn at least four votes before he could take over the position. He will likely be sworn in at the council’s next regular meeting.
