SPRINGFIELD — Three teenagers are facing charges after allegedly firing multiple shots outside a home on the 1000 block of Summer Street on Wednesday, April 29.
The teens, three 17-year-old boys, fired numerous shots and went back inside their home just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, said Springfield Police Division Chief Stephen Moody.
When police arrived, they were initially unable to make contact with the boys, and officers surrounded the house.
Keifer Alternative School, 601 Selma Road, was briefly placed on lockdown while police investigated the incident.
Two of the boys eventually came out of the house and investigators located the third inside the home, said Moody.
“Bad decision today on these three young men’s part,” said Moody. “The young men all cooperated once they came out of the house — they knew they made a mistake.”
Neighbor David Flora said he was sitting in his living room when he heard the shots ring out across the street.
“They were holding the gun, walking around firing at random,” he said.
The teens will likely be charged with discharging a firearm in the city limits and inducing panic, said Moody.
The boys are cousins, but only one of them lived in the house, he said.
No one was injured and investigators haven’t found any evidence that drugs or alcohol were involved.
