ENON — Greenon Local Schools will hold a special meeting Wednesday, March 17, to organize a campaign for its upcoming levies, according to Assistant Superintendent Tammy Carnahan.

The board hopes to invite residents who are interested in the campaign or volunteering with the campaign to the meeting. The community would take the lead on running the campaign, she said.

“This is an opportunity for folks to get in on the ground floor and really help us determine the direction of this levy campaign,” said Carnahan.

The levy committee, Citizens for Quality Education, has a treasurer but is still seeking a chairperson.

Wednesday’s meeting will last an hour to 90 minutes, she said.

“We try to value people’s time and try to be very organized and do it as efficiently as we can,” said Carnahan.

The district is seeking two levies on the May 4 ballot: a 0.75 percent earned income tax and a 3-mill property tax. The earned income tax would not include Social Security, pensions or unemployment benefits and would cost $300 a year for a $40,000 income. The property tax would cost about $92 a year for the owner of a $100,000 home.

Anyone who cannot attend the meeting but would like to be involved can call the district offices at (937) 328-0373 or get more information online at greenon.k12.oh.us.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Greenon High School.
