SPRINGFIELD – An initiative is launching Sunday, May 16 to get ideas for shaping the Springfield region’s future.

It is called Greater Springfield Moving Forward. It is an initiative spearheaded by the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, the city, Clark County, local business and labor leaders, as well as the Springfield News-Sun. It is asking for broad community participation; initially, people are being asked simply to step forward with their ideas.

A survey is being launched today — you can read more about it in a letter from the co-chairs of Greater Springfield Moving Forward that appears on page A10 — that looks at five areas in which our community has challenges.

Beginning today and running through Thursday, the News-Sun examines the five areas. They are:

  • Sunday: Economic Development and Job Growth
  • Monday: Education, training and workforce development
  • Tuesday: Enhancing the area’s internal and external image
  • Wednesday: Revitalizing strategic areas of the community
  • Thursday: Strengthening Local resources and leadership
