SPRINGFIELD — Clark County residents can recycle TVs for free as the county waste management district observes America Recycles Day this weekend.

The TV Recycling Collection will be held 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Clark County Recycling Center, 1602 W. Main St.

America Recycles Day is an annual event observed nationally on Nov. 15 to encourage more people to recycle, according to Clark County Waste Management District Program Coordinator Steve Schlather.

Locally, the materials the district recycles changes, depending what hat’s needed and “what we think people are trying to get rid of,” Schlather explained.

This year alone, the district has recycled 32,598 pounds of TVs, he said.

Schlather added, “There’s so much variation in weights of TVs, we can’t really say how many televisions that represents,” but it’s a significant amount of recycling.

All materials brought to the TV collection day will be recycled but the collection will be limited to residents of Clark County (no businesses), one TV per household and whole TV sets only.

“This special collection gives residents an opportunity to get rid of an unusable TV without putting it in a landfill,” Schlather said.

The Clark County Recycling Center normally accepts TVs for a fee of 20 cents a pound, with a maximum charge of $20 for each TV.

The highest form of recycling is to reuse. This recycles 100%. Far better than the recycle center. Give your TV to a TV man! Help him out also. Be a good neighbor.
