EPA fines Chateau Estates mobile home park

GERMAN TWP., Clark County — The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has ordered Chateau Estates mobile home park to permanently abandon its wastewater treatment plant and reconnect to the North Hampton sewer system.

The mobile home park’s owner, Helen LLC , was also ordered to pay a $11,000 civil penalty for violating water pollution control regulations, according to an EPA release issued Monday, Feb. 8.

Chateau Estates, located at 3565 Folk Ream Road, is comprised of 225 mobile homes. It was initially ordered to connect to North Hampton in 2006 and did so by September of that year, according to the EPA. That November, Helen LLC was notified it was exceeding its agreed limit of waste water sent to North Hampton.

In December, the park violated EPA orders by diverting part of the flow back to its wastewater treatment plant, which discharges into Donnels Creek.

The EPA sent notices of violation to the facility. Chateau Estates complied and installed a temporary solution to prevent water from entering the wastewater treatment plant.

The facility is now ordered to permanently plug the sewer.

Chateau Estates is not a stranger to water issues. High levels of arsenic in its drinking water caused a group of residents, nine years ago, to start a legal fight to get clean water.

Five years later the park was ordered to get a water filtration system installed and a $1 million system paid for by the EPA was installed.

The residents dropped their lawsuit in 2008.

We had to install a whole house water filtration system because of the rust that would ruin the laundry and other sediment that would settle into a glass half an inch thick. It was pretty disgusting.

Sorry to hear it's gotten worse.

The solution to the problem is forever banning trailer Parks. They are a cesspool of problems.

I also had problems with the water. It would cause me and my family to break out in rashes after a bath, you could not use it for coffee because you could see a shiny oily residue in the coffee, and it turned your clothes yellow. If you have ever walked around Chateau the pond by the pool house looks disgusting. It is about time something was done about this problem. I mean, we are talking about people's lives!

I lived at Chateau from 1998-2004. We were never able to drink the water and had to either use a filter or buy water to drink. When my daughter was about 3 months old my water pitcher with a filter was not screwed on properly and caused the water to not be properly filtered. I used this water for her bottles. She woke up in the middle of the night screaming in intense pain and she would not stop. It was not like her at all! It is nice to see Chateau getting what they deserve!!!
