SPRINGFIELD — Nearly 7,500 doses of the H1N1 vaccine were made available to the public Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Clark County Fairgrounds.
Eligibility for this week’s clinic was expanded to include all children and young adults ages six months to 24 years, as well as adults ages 25 to 64 with chronic medical conditions.
Diane Van Auker, public information officer for the Clark County Combined Health District, said Tuesday’s clinic was aimed mainly at children and young adults because they are most susceptible to the virus.
“We are pushing kids today over anyone else,” Van Auker said. “We’re expecting to see many young, healthy people this week wanting to get the vaccine.”
Van Auker said there will be more clinics in the future as vaccine shipments keep coming, but she could not confirm any dates yet.
She also said that the vaccine would be made available to everyone in the future.
“Right now, we have to follow the regulations set by the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) and start with the high priority groups,” said Van Auker.
“At some point, everyone will be able to receive the vaccine.”
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the clinic had administered 4,669 vaccinations with an approximate waiting time of 10 minutes per dosage.
