SPRINGFIELD - Today was the first time Cheryl Sample ever came to work to find her computer screen covered in deer hair.

Employees at Foreman Blair Pontiac Buick, 224 E. Columbia St., arrived at work early Wednesday, Oct. 28, to discover a deer had crashed through a large window, causing damage throughout an office and showroom.

The 8-point buck was seriously injured by the time employees arrived, and an employee shot it with an arrow to kill it before hauling the animal away.

Dave Vanhoose, a service advisor, said he was the first to arrive around 7 a.m. He discovered a large hole in the business’ window and discovered the buck lying on the floor.

“It was an eye-opener,” Vanhoose said.

While the office was ransacked, the deer didn’t do any damage to a Buick Lacrosse and a Cadillac CTS that were sitting in the showroom at the time.

“He did a number on my desk, but he was panicked,” said Cheryl Sample, sales manager at the business.

Sample’s phone was knocked off its base, deer hair covered her computer screen and the floor was littered with paperwork that had been knocked off her desk.

“I’m just thankful I wasn’t sitting at my desk,” Sample said.

Employees said they had seen the same deer in the area for several weeks before Wednesday morning’s incident.

There is something not quite right with the picture here. Judging from the picture that glass appears to be too close to both the ground and the door to be plate glass. To meet code it should be tempered or 18" off the ground and 36" from the door. Hopefully the glass is being replaced with the correct type. Then the next deer that crashes through it might live.

Thank God no one was injured. This story reminds me of the one where the deer went through the ladies windshield on Gettysburg. How BIZZAR!Thank God she was not hurt either.I like the building personally b/c if not for that business my husband and I would starve! He is a builder. So I thank God for every opportunity for him to build, regardless!I understand the deer has to have space to live, yet we still have a lot of country! This is a no-win situation.?

Free food, good on him. Steaks, jerky, roast.

I scored (2) on Shiloh Springs couple yr ago in front of Hara. People hit them, I ran out and got drivers to let me have deer, Trotwood not have tags, Sheriff who come along supplied my tag, 2nd was OSP, took a while for him to show up.

I carry a my hunt knife, gloves, and bags in the car year round, as my drive is through deer territory everyday.

Deer are everywhere in the city! Thank God this one did not cause a car wreck that could have caused serious injuries or a death! And by the way my husband is out deer hunting right at this very moment! And he does keep a bow with him in his truck!!! It's called controlling the population so that they don't enter the city limits and cause accidents like this one did! Whether we like it or not hunters are needed!
