At 6 p.m., St. Theresa School gym was practically empty, with undisturbed food tables, balloons strewn about and adults finishing last minute preparations for the Girl Scouts sponsored father-daughter dance.
By 6:15, the gym was packed with pre-K through sixth grade girls dancing, playing with balloons and talking to their friends.
The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio hosted the dance Saturday.
“It’s just an opportunity to spend time with dad,” said Shawn Dennison, who brought his two daughters and also helped organize the event. “We want to give them memories of spending time with dad. ... I don’t think enough events like this happen.”
Dennison’s 11-year-old daughter Dresden, a Girl Scout cadet, also helped decorate and set up food for the dance. She even bought a necklace for her 6-year-old sister Francisca to wear for the occasion.
Dresden said she was excited to see her friends, but mostly to dance with her father.
“He’s perfect,” she said. “I have no problem dancing with him.”
Besides dancing and socializing, father-daughter pairs also had portraits taken. Chris Kinsler, Clark County assistant prosecutor, played with his 6-year-old daughter Sophia while waiting in line for pictures.
“I have three kids, two boys and one girl. It’s nice to get one on one time with her,” Kinsler said. “With boys its easier ... you have more in common (sports and stuff), so its nice to get to do stuff like this with (Sophia).”
Sophia said she was excited about dancing and being with her friends. When asked what part of the party she looked forward to the most, Sophia thought very hard.
“Balloons!” she said, as her father laughed.
