URBANA — County and state officials, as well as numerous family members stopped by a retirement ceremony for Champaign County’s longtime auditor.

Bonnie Warman, who has served more than 20 years in the auditor’s office, had delivered a letter of resignation to the Champaign County commissioners earlier this month, although her term does not expire until next year. Members of the crowd thanked her for her years of service Friday, July 31.

“All the auditors in the state of Ohio respect Bonnie and her knowledge of the Ohio Revised Code,” said Dennis York, Shelby County’s auditor who stopped by the ceremony.

State officials were also on hand, including Ohio Rep. John Adams, R-Sidney, who presented Warman with a certificate of recognition for her time in office. Lisa Hayes, Dayton regional liaison for the Ohio Auditor’s Office, also presented a certificate to Warman.

While she said it seemed odd that she will no longer serve as auditor, it was time for a change, Warman said. She said she had also been receiving congratulatory calls from other county auditors statewide throughout the day.

“It’s kind of strange but it’s time to do something else,” she said.

She said her retirement will allow her to spend more time with friends and family.

“I have a large family and we’re very close,” she said.

The Champaign County commissioners are expected to vote on an interim auditor during a meeting next week.
