SPRINGFIELD — Clark State Community College is taking applications for its new geospatial technology associate degree program.
The class, which is being offered this fall at the Greene Center campus in Beavercreek, was created through a partnership with Advanced Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC), CACI and Woolpert.
It is partially funded through the Ohio Board of Regent’s Future Jobs’ grant.
Geospatial technology is used to interpret satellite and aerial images in areas such as global positioning and geographical information systems and remote sensing.
The technology is commonly used in the area of military intelligence; however, demand is increasing for more commercial use such as school bus routing, flood plain simulations and statics gathering.
Demand is expected to increase by 10 percent to 20 percent in the next decade, said David Devier, Clark State’s vice president of academic and student affairs.
“There are very few places in the country that offer this particular program,” he said.
CACI provided curriculum development assistance for the course. ATIC will house the sophisticated computer systems used in the lab portion of the program.
