SPRINGFIELD — Children who received their first dose of the H1N1 vaccines before Nov. 3 are able to receive the second recommended booster vaccine during the Tuesday, Dec. 1, vaccine clinic to be held at the Clark County Fairgrounds. The booster vaccine is recommended to children ages 9 and under who received their first vaccine at either the county’s Oct. 27 or Nov. 3 flu vaccine clinics. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the initial and booster doses of the vaccine be administered at least 28 days apart.

The clinic, run by the Clark County Combined Health District, will be open from 2 until 8 p.m. or while vaccine supplies last.

The Champaign Health District also hosted a clinic Monday, Nov. 30. An additional clinic is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 6 in Champaign County, although it may be cancelled depending on the amount of turnout expected, health officials said.

In addition to the booster vaccines for younger children in Clark County, free vaccines will also be available to individuals who are considered high risk for complications from the H1N1 virus.

Those individuals include:

• Pregnant women.

• People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age.

• Health care and emergency medical services personnel.

• Those between the ages of 6 months and 24 years.

• People 25 through 64 years of age with underlying medical conditions that could make them more susceptible to complications from the H1N1 virus.

To preregister for the vaccine, visit ccchd.com and bring a printed copy of the form to the fairgrounds. Buses will run from the downtown hub to the fairgrounds, and back downtown beginning at 1 p.m. The last bus will leave the fairgrounds for downtown at 4 p.m.

Impact Bethel will provide transportation to western Clark County residents. For more information, visit impactbethel.org or call Carrie at (937) 307-5874.

There is no charge for transportation assistance to the fairgrounds for the H1N1 clinic.
