I am a smoker. I put my cigs out and then put the butts in my pocket or my purse, if there is not an ashtray around. Remember ppl, when u point a finger @ someone, there r 3 fingers pointing back at u. I am a Springfield native and my kids live in Springfield, I now live in Sandusky and even here I c more trash on the ground then I do cig. butts.

I am a non-smoker and agree that cigarette butts are nasty. My husband is a smoker, but uses common sense. Don't say every smoker "NEVER" uses their ashtray. He does. A cigarette butt is approximately 1" long. They are @ the doors of the restaurants, because that's where the cans are to dispose of them. It's disgusting to have them there, but the alternative is on the ground. Maybe we should worry about the 20 oz pop bottles and fast food bags all over our nation's roads and highways.

I am a smoker and yes I don't agree with throwing cigarettes out the window or dumping ashtrays in parking lots. But honestly when I drive down the street I don't see cigarette butts on the side of the road, I see fast food bags, trash bags and beer bottles. So if everyone on here is out to point a finger, lets take care of the junk we can see first!!

It is funny how non-smokers thing all smokers throw their butts everywhere... their ignorance! There is more litter in this town caused by bottles, fast-food litter, etc. The persecution of smokers is simply out of hand - why don't you get off you fat butts and lobby to make smoking illegal - then you can make up the tax revenue by paying extra taxes on candy, fast-food, ding-****, etc.

Be careful to judge all smokers - the finger might just come back to point at you!!!

I have visited this restaurant many times and there is an ashtray outside of the building. As a non-smoker it disgusts me how smokers throw their cigarette butts around without a care as to how it makes our city look. Use some commonsense people.

Yeh Geesh, I hardly ever see a smoker toss their butt out a car/truck window... (((eyes rolling)))

If you properly dispose of your trash then you are rare in the sm0ker world!

I am a smoker and never throw my cigarette buts out, I extinguish them properly and do not smoke in designated areas as well..if the restaurant does not have a place to dispose the cigarettes then they are just as much to blame as the person doing it. Just because one person does it does not mean all do and to insult one's intelligence due to them being a smoker is ludicrous!

Same goes for people that throw trash out of their car windows!
geesh

We should stop going into any resturants or stores
that allows smoking within the state required distance of the door. Also stores should not allow their employees to smoke at their entrance.I refuse to go in places that I have to walk throw second hand smoke just to get in and spend my money.

You can't walk three feet anywhere in Springfield without seeing cigarette butts littered on the ground. Most smokers think the world is just one giant ashtray. It shouldn't surprise anyone that out of the millions of cigarette butts littered in Springfield each year one of them caused a fire.

agree smoking at the front door should not be allowed. if I am not mistaken the state law says they have to be at least 30-50 feet away. Smokers need to make use of the pots made especially for disposing of the butts. I don't recall seeing one. Smokers need to be more responsible, and in this case the smoker needs pay damages.

I thought the law was so many feet from the building..and if a smoker caused it, Y would we NOT blame them...

Frickers should ban smoking directly in front of the doors anyway. You have to walk through a cloud of smoke to enter or leave that place. They should build an outdoor patio where smokers could congregate instead of in front of the building - looks trashy.

How about a statewide idiot ban instead?

Stop blaming the smokers! Just because someone threw something with fire on it too close to a combustable structure.......

Yet another reason why there should be a state-wide public smoking ban!
