SPRINGFIELD — Springfield has been good to Clyde Suttles.
So as a way to say thank you, the owner of C&S Tree Recycling is giving away live Christmas trees.
“Every year we give out about 5 to 10 trees to (people who can’t afford one),” Suttles said. “This year I had an opportunity to buy 150 of them and I thought how a lot of people are having a hard time right now with the way the economy is...”
Individuals who are unable to purchase their own tree may pick out a tree at the business, 2551 Dayton Road, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
“They can just come out and pick it up. I’ll have candy canes for the kids, too,” Suttles said. “If they need help, we can probably get it delivered.”
While he’s doing it for the community he’s also doing it for his grandchildren, whom he hopes will embrace the idea of helping others.
“I’ve been in business for 30 years. This town has been real good to us,” he said. “It’s our little way of giving back.”
