SPRINGFIELD — Clark County elections officials certified results Tuesday, Nov. 24, that show David Shaw is mayor of Tremont City after winning the Nov. 3 election against incumbent Tony Flood.

The day before the election, village council officials filed a temporary order in an attempt to restrain the Board of Elections from certifying the results because Shaw petitioned to detach his home from Tremont City — which was official Nov. 16.

Shaw and his wife now rent an apartment in Tremont City; Shaw filed a new voter registration card Nov. 18.

A Common Pleas Court judge denied the council’s restraining order Nov. 23, ruling, “while the Court is skeptical of defendant Shaw’s ‘paper residence,’ the Court finds it sufficient for purposes of allowing the Board of Elections to proceed with their certification decision (Tuesday).”

Judge Douglas Rastatter also found that “whether it is sufficient to satisfy the Village’s residential requirement for holding office remains to be seen.”

Assistant County Prosecutor Andrew Pickering said the issue of Shaw’s residency is now between “Shaw and whomever is challenging him taking office.”

In another race, a flip of a coin determined Cliff Allen will sit on the village’s council over opponent Steve Heider after the two candidates tied for the seat.

However, state law says candidates within a half-percent of each other’s votes require a recount, said Board of Elections Director Mark Oster.

If the recount shows Allen and Heider are still tied at 83 votes each, the coin toss will stand, Oster said.

Winners for the other three council seats are Ryan Pequignot, Jeffrey Thompson and Larry Blevins.

A recount has also been set for the Greenon school board race between Keith Culp and David Ball.

Ball received 1,327 votes and Culp received 1,360 votes.

The other two seats will go to Becky Hale and Nelson Henning.

The recount is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1. For complete official election results, log on to http://www.voterfind.com/public/ohclark/results.htm.

What a stupid hick dump of a town. Why does a city that is 0.4 sq miles in size need a mayor and a city council. Tremont City is smaller in size than most subdivisions, and they have a police force? You people are funny.

maybe now they can quit having that dread awful police in the middle of town clocking people 24.7 but i doubt they will do anything about that, i swear if someone could demolish a whole town this would be the one and no one would even no it was gone lol

A reply was never expected, I have studied both sides, as a matter of fact a past mayor and recent council electee has cost me money. He chose to shirk his duties as mayor last year and allowed a trash bill to be attached to a property I just recently bought and refurbished. I hear (and appreciate) the concerns people have about funds being used, how about when an elected official allows property owners and citizens to be unfairly penalized?I dont live in the village, I have invested many $ in it

Mr. Sanders....I think maybe you have chosen to listen to only one side. There is much to be accomplished within this village.I have confidence in the new council. The present Mayor has no real power anyway..just influence over some of the members of the present council.I believe the new council will achieve much.I will support their efforts.I will not reply to you again. Please listen to the other side before you pre-judge!! Enough said!!!!

Sam, I have only one question for you and those that feel that you have chosen the right path, where do you want the village to be in 5 years? Do you want it to still be a independant village, or do you want it to disolved and absorbed into German Township? The mayor elect is planning on disolving it, it came out of his wife's mouth at the last meeting as she was leaving the village hall. All the work and efforts of many will be erased by a few, I dont share the same level of confidence as you.
