NORTH LEWISBURG — Triad Local Schools is reviewing its field trip policies and implementing more detailed protocols after two 18-year-old students were left behind in Madison County following an academic competition Saturday, March 13, according to Superintendent Craig Meredith.

The principal of Triad High School is conducting an investigation and appropriate action will be taken, Meredith said.

“To my knowledge, the teacher reportedly mistakenly thought that those students were on the bus,” he said.

The teacher had taken a group of 20 to 30 high school students to Tolles Career Center in Madison County for an academic competition, according to Meredith.

The students had cell phones and were able to contact their parents to secure a ride home, he said.

“We have reviewed our administrative guidelines relative to field trip procedures and we feel that it will be in our interest to instruct a more detailed protocol that will be added to those guidelines,” Meredith said.

@ who
I for one am a mother of two and have NEVER or will NEVER forget my children somewhere. Who ever leaves their child somewhere or these mother's who lock their kids in the car and say "whoops i forgot" should be shot and never be a parent again. They are your #1 priority in your life and should never be out of your sight. PERIOD! If your so forgetful, give them to someone who cares!

As a member of an area school's Academic Team, I find it hard to believe this is one of the top stories. It was a Saturday and I'm sure the 18 year olds were in no danger. We go to competitions all the time and this is not a big deal. Try reporting on something positive involving high school kids.

18 years old........that is an adult. This was accidental and nothing more. Let the school figure how to prevent this from happening next time and get on with more important things. If this is the kind of stuff we are worrying about.....God have mercy on us. Just let it go......we cannot prevent every little thing from happening...we are all only human........next.
