Villa Springfield, a 110-bed health care facility, is one of three companies in the nation to win the top award for business integrity given by the Better Business Bureau.
The facility, at 701 Villa Road, won the 2009 BBB International Torch Award for ‘its commitment to integrity... exhibited by how it treats residents, their families and its employees,” said Steve Cox, president and CEO of the Council of Better Business Bureaus. The BBB announced the awards Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Villa Springfield is the smallest of the three honorees; the others are Verizon of New York, and the president and CEO of the Consumer’s Union, publishers of Consumer Reports magazine.
The award comes after the facility won the BBB 2009 Eclipse Integrity Winner for a business with 51 to 100 employees.
“This is really the next level,” Bill Robinson, Villa Springfield’s executive director, said Wednesday.
Villa applied to the BBB for the national award with information on its case management practices, customer and stakeholder relations, communications/makreting practices and industry reputation.
“This demonstrates our commitment to the highest standards that provide benefit to our residents, employees, suppliers, shareholders and the surrounding community,” Robinson said.
It’s an honor to be recognized at the national level and in the company of a company like Verizon, he said.
“Our employees are so excited about this,” he said, “It’s really all about their superior commitment to our residents and giving excellent care. They go above and beyond every day.”
“We hope this shows our strong commitment to our residents and the community. It’s more about trust and ethics — we hold ourselves to a higher standard and want everyone on the community to see that,” he said.
He was surprised at the announcement and never thought Villa would win because the business was so much smaller than its competitors.
Villa was anonymously nominated for the BBB’s Eclipse award and then was judged based on lengthy application documentation as well as on-site visits by judges, interviews with residents, family members and staff.
