US dollar higher in European trading, gold falls

LONDON — The U.S. dollar was up against other major currencies in European trading Thursday. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.4014, down from $1.4148 late Wednesday in New York.

Other dollar rates:

—96.03 Japanese yen, down from 96.52

—1.0838 Swiss francs, up from 1.0747

—1.1608 Canadian dollars, up from 1.1490

The British pound was quoted at $1.6370, down from $1.6474.

Gold traded in London at $929.50 per troy ounce, down from $938.25 late Wednesday.
