WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Col. D. Scott George, commander of the National Air and Space Intelligence Center since June 2008, is in line for a promotion to brigadier general and could receive a new assignment within weeks.
President Obama’s nomination Monday, March 15, of George for elevation to brigadier general will go before the Senate for confirmation, the Air Force said Tuesday. George was one of 29 officers from across the Air Force identified for selection as brigadier generals.
“I am honored by the nomination both personally and professionally, and I look forward to continuing to serve the Air Force and the nation as a brigadier general,” George said.
The intelligence center he heads at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is the Air Force’s analysis center for foreign air, space and specialized intelligence. It compiles reports referred to military leadership and all the way up to the White House. George manages a $300 million annual budget and oversees more than 3,100 personnel worldwide.
NASIC officials expect to learn details of George’s new assignment within weeks, said James Lunsford, a spokesman for the center.
In 2008, George succeeded Col. Karen Cleary, who was promoted to an assignment with the Air Force Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.
