SPRINGFIELD — Negotiators for Moyno Inc. and United Auto Workers 902 are trying to avert a strike by employees.

Moyno — which manufactures cavity pumps and parts for the oil and gas industry, food and beverage industries, and more — has about 240 employees, 128 of which are represented by the UAW. Another 150 retirees are also represented by Local 902.

Employees contacted the News-Sun to say Moyno asked for pay cuts and to say a strike is possible if an agreement isn’t reached.

William Crites, president for Local 902, said it was too soon to say if a strike would happen. He said Moyno asked for concessions from workers.

“And this is from a company that is making profits,” Crites said. “We are working with them on that. We are working toward an agreement.”

Crites said the sides would meet again today and that the negotiations could continue through the week.

Calls to Moyno, 1895 W. Jefferson St., and to parent company Robbins and Myers were not returned Wednesday.
