Springfield bar shooting victim ID’d

Police confirm that Ernest Edwards, 34, of Springfield died following a shooting late Saturday night.

Just before midnight, police and medics were called to the Night Owl Bar at 601 W. Main St. for a fight.

Springfield Police Chief Steve Moody said that when officers arrived on the scene, they found Edwards inside the bar with a gun shot wound. Moody said Edwards later died.

Moody added that three other victims with gunshot wounds showed up at Springfield Regional Medical Center. Because they were victims of violence, Moody said officers were stationed at the hospital to increase security. They also answered questions of family members who arrived there.

Springfield police confirmed early Sunday morning that a fourth gunshot victim showed up at the hospital.

There are multiple shell casings on the ground in front of and in back of the bar.

In a Facebook post, Al Overholser said he heard three shots, followed by five shots in quick succession at the bar. He then heard emergency responders coming to the area.

No word yet on a suspect.

Detectives are investigating.
