1. Bengals at Eagles in prime time: Bengals fans — and Donovan McNabb — likely remember the last time these two met. On Nov. 16, 2008, the longest game in Bengals history came to a merciful 13-13 end when Shayne Graham’s 47-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right with seven seconds left in overtime. McNabb, the former Eagles QB, was ready to take the field for a second overtime when he was informed regular-season games could end in ties. Hopefully this one on Thursday won’t take 75 minutes to decide that no one wins — including the fans.
2. RG III watch: It’s 13 games later than perhaps they’d like, but Cleveland fans finally might get a look at rookie quarterback sensation Robert Griffin III on Sunday. Maybe. The Browns will face the Washington Redskins, but the Redskins rookie quarterback left Sunday’s overtime defeat of the Baltimore Ravens on the final drive of regulation. Both Browns and Redskins fans will keep a close eye on Griffin’s status this week, and especially whether the injury is a season-ending ACL tear, as some feared following Washington’s win Sunday.
3. Demonz on ice: The Federal Hockey League’s top team can expand its lead when second-place Williamsport comes to town. Dayton hosts Williamsport in a pair of games, one Friday and one Saturday on the Hara Arena home ice. The teams have met three times this season, and the Demonz are 1-2 against the Outlaws. Entering the week, Dayton has won 13 of its last 15 games. Those two losses? Both were to Williamsport by scores of 3-2 and 4-3.
4. East vs. West, Lakota style: It’s an early season boys high school basketball showdown in the Greater Miami Conference when Lakota East visits Lakota West on Saturday. Both teams enter the week undefeated, including 1-0 starts in the GMC. Lakota East, led by Stedman Lowry’s 19.8 points per game, is off to a 4-0 start. Lakota West, which boasts the GMC’s leading scorer with Monty Boykins’ 27 points, is 4-0.
5. GWOC showdown: Wayne is undefeated at 4-0, including an impressive win over Springboro. That Springfield is also undefeated at 4-0 entering the week might be more of a surprise. The Wildcats, coming off a 6-15 season, travel to Huber Heights on Friday for the Central Division lead in boys basketball. Springfield is bolstered by eight players with varsity experience, something coach Isiah Carson hasn’t been blessed with in recent seasons. As for the Warriors, there’s another Trice to contend with in sophomore D’Mitrik, one of four Warriors averaging double figures.
