CINCINNATI —
While many players soft pedal their comments about facing a former team, Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones took the opposite approach Wednesday when asked about the Dallas Cowboys.
“I’ll do whatever I can do to win this game. I mean whatever,” said Jones, who played for the Cowboys in 2008. “I don’t want Dallas to win no games. I’m not a Dallas fan. I’m not cheering for nobody over there. That’s just how it is.
“I’ll be one of the guys out there with no seatbelt,” Jones continued. “I probably won’t sleep the night before. I don’t have any friends on Dallas. Well, just one. Number 21 (Mike Jenkins). That’s the only guy I can say I’m friends with. The rest of them, I don’t care about.”
The Tennessee Titans traded Jones to the Cowboys in 2008 following his one-year suspension for violating the NFL player conduct policy. He was suspended six more games in the middle of the 2008 season for again violating the player conduct policy.
After playing in the final three games that year, Jones was waived by Dallas. He sat out all of 2009 before signing with the Bengals in May 2010.
“In Dallas, a lot of (stuff) is fairy tale,” Jones said. “It’s not real life. They don’t tell you how it really is.”
Jones was quick to point out that whatever hard feelings he has about his time in Dallas have nothing to do with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
“I love Jerry with all my heart,” he said. “I’m not going to get into what I don’t like about them, but it’s not about Jerry. He’s done a lot for me. I’m a Bengal and I would like to stay a Bengal for the rest of my career, but we’ll see how that goes. Right now I’m playing hard, and on Sunday I’ll have a double chip on my shoulder.”
Herron happy
Running back Dan Herron was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster Tuesday when wide receiver Mohamed Sanu was placed on Injured Reserve with a foot injury.
“I feel like I’m pretty ready,” said Herron, a rookie from Ohio State. “Obviously I still have work to do, but I feel like I’m getting better. I’m ready to go out there and make some plays.”
With running back Cedric Peerman’s status up in the air after suffering an ankle injury Sunday in San Diego, Herron could be called upon to fill Peerman’s role on special teams while adding some depth in the backfield.
“I’ll definitely be in the mix on special teams,” Herron said. “Whatever they throw at me. I’ve got to be ready and I plan on being ready.”
Injury report
Running back Cedric Peerman still was in a walking boot Wednesday and did not practice. Cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick (concussion), kicker Mike Nugent (calf) and wide receiver Marvin Jones (illness) also did not practice.
Tight end Jermaine Gresham (hamstring), while center Kyle Cook (ankle) and tight end Richard Quinn (hamstring) were full participants.
Tot toys
The Cincinnati Bengals and the United States Marine Corps Reserves are teaming up again for the Annual Toys for Tots Collection on Sunday prior to the game against the Cowboys.
Marine Corps Reservists will be all entrances to Paul Brown Stadium to collect new, unwrapped toys and cash donations, which will benefit more than 50,000 less fortunate children in the community.
